TIP-OFF  

On Wednesday, Northwest Florida aims to keep their perfect season alive with a road matchup against conference rival Tallahassee. The Raiders are coming off a 28-point victory in their conference opener over Chipola on Saturday, extending their overall win streak to 20 games dating back to the spring of 2023.

 

Tallahassee has gotten off to a rough start to their season, going 4-9 through the first couple of months. Their four wins came against non-conference opponents East Georgia State, Andrew College, Georgia Highlands, and St. Petersburg College.

 

NWF is riding a 13-game win streak over Tallahassee, with the Eagle's last win over the Raiders coming on February 20, 2019, on their home court. These two sides last met on February 15, 2023, with the Raiders securing an 88-36 victory over the Eagles at home.

 

LAST TIME OUT

The Raiders opened conference play at home on Saturday by defeating Chipola, 76-48, en route to their 16th win of the season. NWF dominated this game from the start after jumping out to a 23-9 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Raiders shot the ball effectively, hitting on nearly 50.0% of their shot attempts, including 31.6% from three and 70.6% from the free throw line.

 

Celia Riviere led the team in scoring with 18 points while bringing in five rebounds. Destiney McPhaul notched her second double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds while adding seven assists and five steals to her impressive performance. Mekhia Chase (11) and Deborah Davenport (10) contributed effectively to the scoreboard as both reached double figures in scoring for the contest.

 

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

The Raiders currently rank top 30 in the nation in 11 different statistical categories and top ten in five categories, including field goals made per game (8th) at 31.5, field goal percentage (2nd) at 51.4, assists per game (2nd) at 23.9, points allowed per game (1st) at 43.2, and opponents' field goal percentage (5th) at 30.8.

 

In addition, the Raiders have a pair of players who rank top-15 of the NJCAA field goal percentage – Celia Riviere ranks sixth at 67.5%, and Deborah Davenport ranks 11th at an even 64.0%. Additionally, second-year guard Destiney McPhaul ranks top-40 in a few categories as well – McPhaul ranks 34th in three-point percentage at 41.4% and 39th in assists per game at 4.4.
