Raiders Travel to Panama City to Face Columbia State Friday

NICEVILLE, Florida – As the holiday season approaches and the 2023 calendar year nears a conclusion, Northwest Florida State women's basketball (12-0) looks to keep their perfect record intact as they get set to take on Columbia State College (2-6) tomorrow afternoon in Panama City, Fla., before closing out the year with a pair of games in Gainesville, Fla. 

TIP-OFF  

Tip-off for Friday's contest between the Raiders and Chargers is set for 3:30 PM (CST) from Panama City, Fla., at Billy Harrison Field House on the Campus of Gulf Coast State College.

The Raiders last took the floor nine days ago on Dec. 5 in Griffin, GA, where they defeated Southern Crescent by an impressive 52 points to secure their 12th victory of the season. Bart Walker and the Raiders have won 16 consecutive games dating back to last season and have outscored their opponents 1,222-749 during that stretch.

The Chargers enter Friday's contest with a record of 2-6, losing their last matchup against Walters State 54-45. After a slow 0-4 start to the season, the Chargers managed to secure their first win of the year against Roane State, defeating the Raiders 80-54, before winning their second game shortly after against Volunteer State 80-53.

LAST TIME OUT

NWF notched their 12th win of the season back on Dec. 5 following a 91-39 victory over Southern Crescent in Griffin, GA. The Raiders had one of their best shooting performances of the season that day, hitting a near 60% clip (59.1) as a team while connecting on a season-high 63.3% of their shots from behind the arc.

Destiney McPhaul led the team in scoring with 21 points despite only playing 14 minutes in the game. The second-year guard shot a remarkable 8-9 from the floor, including 4-4 from three and 1-2 from the charity stripe.

Kyla McBride recorded her fifth double-figure scoring output of the season with 14 points against the Tigers. She also managed to add five rebounds, one assist, and a pair of steals to her stats sheet.

Deannasty Smith and Nevaeh Scott both contributed 11 points in the Raiders win last week. Smith added a career-high nine rebounds, while Scott recorded a career-high seven assists.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING

The Raiders currently rank top-30 in the nation for 13 different statistical categories and top ten in five categories, including field goals made per game (7th)(32.1), field goal percentage (2nd)(52.0), assists per game (2nd)(23.7), points allowed per game (3rd)(43.2) and opponents' field goal percentage (7th)(29.8).

In addition, the Raiders have a trio of players who also rank towards the top of the NJCAA in a few individual categories. Deborah Davenport ranks sixth in field goal percentage (68.3%), Celia Riviere ranks 13th in field goal percentage (65.2%), and Destiney McPhaul is tied for 35th in assists per game (4.6).
