
Raiders Stay Perfect with Dominant Win Over Mississippi Gulf Coast
PENSACOLA, Fla. – Northwest Florida State women's basketball improved to 11-0 on the season with a commanding 73-38 victory over Mississippi Gulf Coast on Saturday.
The Raiders' defense shined once again, holding an opponent to under 40 points for the third time this season. While the offense struggled to find its rhythm early—shooting 38% and scoring just 28 points in the first half—the defense was relentless. The Raiders allowed only five points in the first quarter and ten in the second, building a 28-15 lead by halftime.
In the second half, Northwest Florida's offense came alive, improving to 55% shooting, including two made three-pointers. The defense continued to dominate, forcing tough shots and controlling the boards with 31 rebounds.
By the final buzzer, the Raiders secured a decisive 35-point victory to cap off a perfect 2-0 weekend at the Pensacola State Thanksgiving Classic, further solidifying their unbeaten record at 11-0.
KEY PERFORMERS
- Mekhia Chase led the charge with a game-high 16 points, shooting an efficient 7-of-10 from the field. She also contributed across the board with six rebounds, five assists, a steal, and a block.
- Kayla Williams, a freshman forward, delivered 13 points, five rebounds, and a block, marking her second double-digit scoring performance of the season.
- Nevaeh Scott made the most of her opportunities, scoring 11 points despite just one field goal. She went a perfect 8-of-8 from the free-throw line and added a three-pointer.
- Deborah Davenport continued to excel defensively, recording seven rebounds and four blocks while chipping in nine points on offense.
