NICEVILLE, Fla. – The Northwest Florida State women's basketball team is back on the court this week, aiming to extend their perfect season at the Pensacola State Thanksgiving Classic. The Raiders will face Bishop State on Friday and Mississippi Gulf Coast on Saturday, with both games tipping off at 1:00 p.m.
The Raiders have started their season red-hot, boasting a 9-0 record after securing two wins last weekend in Panama City. They edged Florida Southwestern 58-53 on Friday and dominated Southern Union 78-42 on Saturday.
Mekhia Chase and Deborah Davenport were pivotal in both victories. Chase notched a 19-point, 10-rebound double-double against FSW, while Davenport delivered a standout 21-point, 11-rebound performance in the win over Southern Union. The dynamic duo will look to carry that momentum into this week's matchups as the Raiders strive for two more victories.
Bishop State enters the weekend with a 3-5 record, rebounding from an 0-4 start by winning three of their last four games. Their recent success includes an impressive 21-point upset over #6 Jones College on November 15.
Mississippi Gulf Coast, meanwhile, opened their season with four consecutive wins but stumbled last week with back-to-back losses to Mineral Area and Pensacola State. Before facing the Raiders, the Bulldogs will take on Pensacola State again on Friday.
