Raiders Unbeaten Streak Snapped on Saturday in Panama City

PANAMA CITY, Fla. – Today in Panama City, the undefeated streak of Northwest Florida State women's basketball team came to a halt as they faced a formidable opponent in No. 2 Gulf Coast, who secured a commanding victory over the top-ranked Raiders with a notable 32-point lead (74-42).

This defeat marks the most significant margin of loss under the tenure of Coach Bart Walker and only the tenth loss for the Raiders in the past four years. Impressively, Gulf Coast has now managed to defeat the Raiders at least once in each of the last nine seasons, dating back to 2015-16.

The Raiders faced significant challenges in their shooting performance, recording their lowest field goal percentage of the season at 21.3%, with a mere 20.0% success rate from beyond the arc. Notably, this game marked the first time in over a decade that not a single Raider player reached double-digit scoring. Nevaeh Scott led the team with nine points and contributed five rebounds. In contrast, the Raiders' starting lineup only accumulated 17 points collectively, compared to the 66 points scored by the Commodores' starting five. NWF struggled to contain Gulf Coast's offensive prowess, with the Commodores exhibiting remarkable accuracy, shooting 51.7% as a team, including an impressive 64.3% in the second half alone.

Despite this setback, the Raiders will have two opportunities for redemption later in the season, with one game at home on February 10th and another on the road on March 2nd to conclude the season.

Looking ahead, the Raiders face a swift turnaround as they prepare to hit the road again this Wednesday, traveling to Mariana, Fla., for a rematch against Chipola College.
