NWF Improves to 9-0 After Securing Two More Wins in Athens This Week

ATHENS, Texas – The red and white was surely big and bright deep in the heart of Texas this week as Northwest Florida State women's basketball secured it's eighth and ninth wins of the season on Friday and Saturday, defeating South Plains College (62-48) and Paris College (81-60), bringing their record to a perfect 9-0.

FRIDAY

The Raiders kick off the Trinity Valley Classic with a win over South Plains College Friday afternoon, defeating the Lady Texans, 62-48. Four Raiders scored in double figures for the game, including second-year forward Celia Riviere, who notched her fifth double-double of the season, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds while also dishing out seven assists.

Kyla McBride led the Raiders in scoring, nearly surpassing a season-high with 16 points in the contest while adding three steals and a pair of blocks on the defensive end. Jaela Davis and Destiney McPhaul both scored 12 points in the win, rounding out the quartet of double-figure scorers for the Raiders.

NWF shot a near 50.0% clip (49%) from the field while connecting on six of their 18 three-point attempts. Despite giving up 30 points between the second and third quarters, the Raiders held the Lady Texans to just nine points in the final frame to secure a 14-point victory over South Plains for their eighth win of the season.

SATURDAY

Saturday was a much different story for NWF. The Raiders got off to a slow start in the first quarter but quickly turned things around after finding their rhythm. NWF shot a season-best from behind the arc, connecting on 47.1% of their three-point attempts while hitting a 54.5% clip overall.

Celia Riviere and Nevaeh Scott led the charge with 14 points each. For Riviere, this marks the eighth game this season where she's eclipsed double figures in scoring. This gives Scott a new season-high in scoring, surpassing her previous high of 11.

Raiders' leading scorer Destiney McPhaul contributed a solid 13 points to the score sheet, including three of the Raiders' eight triples.

This win marks the Raiders' ninth victory on the season – 13th straight overall – making it the best start to a season since 2021, when Bart Walker and his squad began the year 18-0.
