Raiders Cruise to Fourth Straight Win, Defeating Miami Dade 80-35 on Friday

NICEVILLE, Florida – Another day, another dominate performance for Northwest Florida women's basketball as they earned their fourth straight victory after defeating Miami Dade, 80-35, in the Raiders home opener.

Raider veterans Destiney McPhaul (19) and Celia Riviere (17) were on their game tonight. Together, the pair combined to score 36 points while McPhaul dished out seven assists and Riviere secured seven rebounds. Riviere has 35 points and 17 rebounds in her last two games, dating back to Tuesday night when she earned a double-double (18 points, ten rebounds) over East Mississippi. Jaela Davis was able to contribute nine points, three rebounds, and three assists in her return to the lineup after missing a game due to injury.

The Raiders shot 57.1% for the game while holding the Sharks to just 25.5%. Both teams struggled with the three ball, combining to make only five threes the entire game. However, the Raiders' ability to force turnovers and capitalize on them with the fast break helped them jump out to a considerable lead. Northwest Florida scored 30 of its 80 points off turnovers, while 21 of their points came from off the fast break.

In all, it was another solid showing for a team that has outscored its opponents 316-161 on the season and held each of its last three opponents to under 40 points.

FIRST QUARTER

  • Miami Dade traded blows with the Raiders through much of the first quarter, not letting the Raiders lead grow larger than four.
  • Despite the Raiders shooting 52.9% in the first quarter, they could only carry a three-point lead into the half.
  • Half of the Raiders' points came solely from Celia Riviere after she posted an impressive ten points in the period.

SECOND QUARTER

  • The second quarter was a different story for the Raiders, as they shot 61.5% from the floor and forced 11 more turnovers in the period, bringing their total for the game to 15.
  • Destiney McPhaul added six points in the quarter, giving her 12 for the game.
  • Northwest Florida saw almost half their points come off turnovers in the half, and ten come off the fast break.
  • The Sharks' struggles from the floor were glaring as they could only produce two makes from the field the entire quarter.

THIRD QUARTER

  • Destiny McPhaul continued her strong performance from the first half, into the second. The second-year guard put up seven more points in the quarter, giving her 19 for the game, and had dished out seven total assists.
  • The Raiders shot above 60% and held the Sharks to under 20% shooting for the second straight quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER

  • Northwest Florida closed the game on a 15-6 run, only giving up three makes to Miami Dade in the final frame.
  • The Raiders finished the game only making one three, while the Sharks were able to drain four.
  • Twelve Raiders touched the floor, and all but one recorded a point.
