17-Point Comeback Sends Lady Raiders to Final 4

LUBBOCK, TX. - Northwest Florida was down 15 to #1 South Georgia Tech at halftime, and the deficit grew to as much as 17 before the Raiders locked in and found a way to advance to the Final Four, winning 72-61. The Raiders improve to 27-4 on the year.

To start the game, the Raiders quickly got out to a 6-0 lead, forcing an early South Georgia Tech timeout. From that point on, the Lady Jets woke up and went on a 16-2 run to finish out the first quarter up 16-8. The second quarter was the same story as South GA Tech finished the first half 8-13 from the 3-point line.

The Raiders came out of halftime determined, scoring six straight points to cut the deficit to single digits before the Lady Jets went on their own 8-0 run with 4:41 remaining in the 3rd quarter to secure their largest lead of the night. From that point on, the Raiders locked in and went to work just as they have done all season. Coach Bart Walker dialed up a full-court press that South Georgia Tech did not have an answer to and Destiney McPhaul drained three 3s at the end of the third quarter to bring the Raiders within 4 going into the final 10 minutes.

In the fourth quarter, the momentum stayed with the Raiders as they scored 6 more points to take a 53-51 lead and held South Georgia Tech from connecting on a field goal for more than 9 minutes. The Raiders and Jets traded baskets back and forth for the next couple minutes before Sakima Walker nailed a 3 from the wing to give Northwest Florida a 7-point lead with under 4 minutes to play.

From the 5:37 mark in the 3rd quarter, Northwest Florida outscored South Georgia Tech 41-13 en route to winning 72-61.

Sakima Walker stood out for the Raiders as she scored 22 points on 9-11 shooting, grabbed 11 rebounds, and had 4 blocks and 3 steals. Destiney McPhaul had 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and Zayla Tinner had 15 points and 3 steals.

#8 Northwest Florida will take on the winner of #4 College of Southern Idaho/#5 Blinn on Sunday, March 26th at 4:00 PM in the National Semi-Final game.
