NWF Women Outlast Pensacola on Road

NICEVILLE, Fla. – Northwest Florida State women's basketball held off a second half surge to defeat Pensacola, 58-43, on Monday.

The game, which was rescheduled from Feb. 3, looked as though it would be well in hand for the No. 3 Raiders (11-1, 7-1 PC) until Pensacola found some success offensively after halftime and closed the gap.

The nation's top defense, which has allowed 47.1 points per game on the season, played the part for the entire game as NWF held Pensacola to a season-low 43 points, including just 13 over the first 20 minutes.

The Pirates trailed by as many as 24 before narrowing the deficit to 10 midway through the fourth quarter.

Northwest Florida shot 46.5 percent (20-43) for the game led by Shelbee Brown with 14 points. Nashani Gilbert was 3-of-6 from three-point range and 5-of-9 overall to finish with 13 points. Chanaya Pinto scored nine points to go with five rebounds and five assists.

The Raiders, who have played four games in six day, return to Pensacola as part of a doubleheader with the men's team on Wednesday. The women tipoff at 2 p.m.
