No. 2 Raiders Improve to 4-0, Defeat Indian River
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – No. 2 Northwest Florida State women's basketball shot 44.3 percent for the game and used suffocating defense to edge out a 64-59 win over Indian River on Saturday at Tallahassee Community College.
The Raiders (4-0) were originally scheduled to play at St. Petersburg and Florida Southwestern this weekend, but COVID-19 protocols washed out both of those game. NWF was able to add the game against Indian River on the fly and proved their resiliency in the process.
Chanaya Pinto led all scorers with 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting. She also completed her fourth consecutive double-double of the year and has posted at least 10 points and 10 rebounds in five of her last six games dating back to last season.
Inès Piper scored 14 points to finish in double figures for the second time this season. Imani Jones added 10 points in a 5-for-7 effort from the field.
The Raiders held Indian River to just 30.5 percent shooting as a team and forced 29 turnovers.
NWF has now won 53 of its last 54 non-conference games. Northwest Florida returns to action Feb. 9 against Gulf Coast in Raider Arena. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
