NICEVILLE, Fla. – Northwest Florida State women's basketball claimed its 12th straight victory dating back to last season with a 73-42 win over DME Academy in Raider Arena on Tuesday.
Freshman Shelbee Brown broke out in a big way leading the Raiders with 18 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double-double.
Chanaya Pinto, who was named FCSAA Player of the Week prior to the game, turned in her third consecutive double-double finishing with 17 points, 10 boards.
Northwest Florida (3-0) got off to a sluggish start going 5-for-13 from the field in the first quarter. After taking a 34-19 lead into halftime, the Raiders opened up their advantage to 31 in the second half. For the game Northwest Florida shot 30-of-63, while holding its opponent to just 12-of-47 shooting.
NWF outscored DME 56-6 in the paint and collected 20 offensive rebounds which led to 28 second-chance points.
The Raiders had their weekend game at St. Petersburg and Florida Southwestern canceled due to positive COVID-19 tests within those programs. NWF's next game is set for 5:30 p.m. at Pensacola on Feb. 3.
