SWAINSBORO, Ga. – Northwest Florida State women's basketball kicked off the 2021 season with a 70-59 road victory over East Georgia State on Wednesday.

Chanaya Pinto looked every bit the All-American posting a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds on 9-of-16 shooting.

Masengo Mutanda, playing in her first game since Nov. 2, 2019, scored 21 points on a 9-of-14 effort. Kynadi Kuykendoll was efficient scoring 10 points on a trio of 3-pointers to go along with four assists and four rebounds.

The Raiders (1-0) were matched stride for stride over the first two quarters, but double-digit efforts in the first half by Mutanda and Pinto gave NWF a 35-32 lead at halftime.

Northwest Florida State shot 69.2 percent in the third quarter to open up a 12-point advantage. Overall, the Raiders shot 42.9 percent as a team against 36.8 percent by East Georgia State. The program has now won five straight season openers.
