Raiders Women’s Hoops Eyes Title in Saturday Bout with Tallahassee

NICEVILLE, Fla. – No. 5 Northwest Florida women's basketball has a Panhandle Conference title in sight. A win over Tallahassee on Saturday will lock up a berth in the FCSAA/Region VIII State Tournament and give the team a share of the regular season Panhandle Conference title.

Game time for the women is 5:30 p.m., with the men set to start at 7:30 p.m.

The women (22-4, 7-3 PC) knocked off No. 7 Chipola Wednesday, 67-64, in Marianna to take over sole possession of first in the league standings.

Chanaya Pinto, the reigning NJCAA Player of the Week, finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Fapou Semebene turned in 13 points and 10 boards. Laura Taylor knocked down four 3-pointers to add 14 points for the Raiders.

With a win the women will lock up their second consecutive Panhandle Conference title and third in the last eight seasons.

The men (12-14, 0-10) fell at Chipola an look to rebound in the team's final home game of the season. NWF has won 10 of the last 11 meeting over Tallahassee in Raider Arena.

The game will also serve as Sophomore Day for four women's players and six men's players. The men's ceremony will take place prior to their game. The women's ceremony will take place at halftime of the men's game.

Northwest Florida will also host Dollar Night. All fans in attendance will be treated to $1 hotdogs and popcorn at the concession stands located on the concourse.
