Gulf Coast Outlasts Northwest Florida

PANAMA CITY, Fla. – Gulf Coast's D'Aisa Gregg knocked down a jumper with one minute to play and the Commodores converted free throws down the stretch to pull out a 59-54 win over No. 9 Northwest Florida Saturday in Panama City.

No. 3 Gulf Coast (17-2, 4-2 PC) led for the majority of the game but could never quite put the Raiders away. With GC up 10 in the second quarter, Laura Taylor hit a jumper and Jasmine Quarterman knocked down a 3-pointer to cut the deficit in half.

Northwest Florida (18-4, 3-3) pulled to within two, 43-41, late in the third quarter but a scoring drought that lasted until the 8:46 mark in the final frame. The Raiders finally pulled level on a Fapou Semebene free throw with 3:45 remaining.

The Commodores hit a couple of clutch shots down the stretch however capped by Gregg's late dagger. The game marked the first time in at least six seasons (2014-15) that Gulf Coast had been held to fewer than 60 points at home.

Semebene and Chanaya Pinto led the Raiders with 10 points each. Semebene also finished with nine rebounds and four steals.

NWF returns to action on Jan. 29 when the team travels to face Tallahassee. Tipoff is set for 4:30 p.m. (CT).
