BOSSIER CITY, La. – No. 4 Northwest Florida women's basketball had its 49-game non-conference winning streak snapped in a gritty, defensive loss to No. 12 New Mexico Junior College, 50-48, on Wednesday in the Bossier Classic.
Inbounding under its own basket, New Mexico made a layup with less than five seconds remaining to take a one-point lead. The Thunderbirds then knocked down a late free throw to put the game away.
Fapou Semebene and Chanaya Pinto each scored 11 points to lead all scorers. Rayven Peeples went 5-for-10 from the field to finish with 10 points.
The Raiders (15-1) return home to open Panhandle Conference play against No. 1 Gulf Coast on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
