Game One: Northwest Florida State Surges Past Gulf Coast State with Big Sixth Inning
A five-run sixth inning powered Northwest Florida State to a 7-0 victory over Gulf Coast State on Saturday. The offensive explosion featured a solo home run from Hailey Henry, an RBI single by Bre Hughes, a two-run double from Karson McGowan, and an RBI double by Lulu Luedtke.
The Raiders got on the board in the fifth when Haley Hughes delivered a clutch two-run single.
Cailyn Heyl was dominant in the circle, tossing a complete-game shutout. The right-hander allowed just four hits while striking out nine and walking none. Gulf Coast State's Ainsley Stubbs took the loss, surrendering 10 hits and seven runs (six earned) over six innings while striking out six.
Hughes and Luedtke each tallied two hits for Northwest Florida State. McGowan led the team with two RBIs, finishing 1-for-3.
Gulf Coast State managed just four hits, with Emily Chandler, Cailyn Cooke, Ally Henderson, and Macy Robinette each recording one.
Northwest Florida State will be back in action on Saturday, once again facing Gulf Coast State at home.
Game Two: Walk-Off Thriller Lifts Northwest Florida State Over Gulf Coast State
Northwest Florida State secured a thrilling 3-2 walk-off win over Gulf Coast State on Saturday, thanks to a clutch solo home run by Bre Hughes in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Both teams saw strong performances on the mound, with Raiders pitchers striking out seven, while Gulf Coast State's staff fanned six.
Northwest Florida State struck first in the fourth, when Lulu Luedtke launched a two-run homer to center. Gulf Coast State responded in the sixth with a game-tying RBI single from Ainyah Stokes.
Cailyn Heyl earned her second win of the day, pitching 1.2 innings of hitless relief with two strikeouts. Mallory Baker started for the Raiders, allowing two runs on nine hits over 5.1 innings while striking out five. Gulf Coast State's Kaylee Navarre went 6.2 innings, allowing four hits and three runs while striking out six.
Luedtke led Northwest Florida State at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. The Raiders played flawless defense, turning a double play and committing no errors. Luedtke also led the team with seven defensive plays.
For Gulf Coast State, Stokes had a strong day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with an RBI. AhKeelah Honeycutt and Stokes each drove in a run, while Tatum Hasting went 2-for-3. Gulf Coast State was sharp defensively, with no errors and Cailyn Cooke leading the team with five defensive chances.
Northwest Florida State looks to build on its momentum in the next matchup against Gulf Coast State.
