Raiders Earn 40th Victory After Defeating Coastal Alabama-South

 

NICEVILLE, Fla. — Northwest Florida State Secured 6-2 Victory over Coastal Alabama South on Thursday, earning their 40th victory of the season. 

The Raiders took charge early, getting on the scoreboard first in the third inning when Ashlyn Shirah's sacrifice fly brought in a run.The Coyotes rallied in the fourth, with Taylor Hunt's double tying the game at one.

However, Northwest Florida State regained the lead in the fifth as Britt Bourgoyne's walk and Autumn Vessier's sacrifice fly each added a run.

Cailyn Heyl claimed the win for Northwest Florida State, allowing five hits and two runs (one earned) over seven innings, while striking out three and walking five. Shellie Littlefield started for Coastal Alabama South Softball, conceding seven hits and six runs (four earned) over six innings, with three strikeouts and four walks.

Gyvan Hammons and Hayden Andrews each contributed two hits for the Raiders. Shirah led the offensive charge, going 1-for-2 with two runs batted in and two stolen bases. The Raiders exercised patience at the plate, earning four walks and capitalizing on the base paths with seven stolen bases. The team also turned two double plays.

Ella Morgan Sears led Coastal Alabama South at the plate, going 2-for-3. Hunt and Sears each drove in a run for Coastal Alabama South Softball, with Sydney Sherman drawing two walks. Overall, Coastal Alabama South Softball displayed discipline at the plate, accumulating five walks.

The Raiders will be back in action Saturday for a road doubleheader against Tallahassee starting at noon. The team will be back at home Wednesday for a conference bout against Gulf Coast beginning at 4:00 PM.
