Mason Named Player of the Week, Heyl Named Pitcher of the Week

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – On Tuesday morning, the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) announced its winners for this week's softball Player and Pitcher of the Week awards. Northwest Florida's Christina Mason and Cailyn Heyl were each recognized as the Payer and Pitcher of the Week.

This is the second time this season that Mason and Heyl have been recognized as the player (Mason) and pitcher (Heyl) of the week for their respective positions.

Mason dominated the plate last week, going 7-11 with a .636 batting average, adding 10 RBIs and two home runs, including a grand slam in Saturday's contest against No. 10 Gulf Coast State. This only adds to what has been an incredible month for Mason. In ten games this month, Mason leads the team in batting average (.500), slugging percentage (.833), home runs (2), walks (6), and is tied for the lead in RBIs (11) and runs (8).

For Heyl, she also had an impressive pair of outings last week in her two starts against Tallahassee and No. 10 Gulf Coast. Heyl picked up two wins, tossing 12.0 total innings, tallying eight strikeouts, eight hits and one earned run. In March Heyl has only surrendered nine earned runs, equaling a 1.75 ERA, while racking up 18 punchouts.

Mason, Heyl, and the rest of the Raiders will be back in action this week as they prepare for another conference doubleheader on Wednesday (March 27) against Pensacola State starting at 4:00 PM from the NWF Softball Complex.
