Raiders Open Conference Play With Doubleheader Sweep Over Tallahassee Wednesday

Game One Recap:

Northwest Florida State secured a narrow 3-2 victory over the Tallahassee in a tightly contested battle on Wednesday. The Raiders claimed the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Britt Bourgoyne's double brought in the decisive run.

Both teams showcased strong pitching performances, with Northwest Florida State's pitchers totaling seven strikeouts and the Tallahassee also recording seven.

The Eagles struck first, with Jolee Camp's double in the first inning driving in two runs. Bourgoyne's timely double in the bottom of the first inning helped the Raiders level the score at two.

Pitcher Cailyn Heyl earned the win for Northwest Florida State, conceding six hits and two runs (both unearned) over seven innings, with seven strikeouts and one walk. Camp started in the circle for the Eagles, allowing nine hits and three runs over six innings, with seven strikeouts and one walk.

Bourgoyne led Northwest Florida State's offense with three RBIs, going 2-for-3 at the plate. McKayla Ferguson, Bourgoyne, and Christina Mason each contributed two hits for the Raiders, who also executed three stolen bases and turned one double play.

For the Eagles, Camp stood out with two RBIs and a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, alongside Emily Morrow.

 

Game Two Recap:

In the second matchup, Northwest Florida State dominated with a 5-0 victory over the Tallahassee Community College Eagles.

The Raiders took an early lead in the bottom of the first inning, capitalizing on two doubles. Sister Arnold's double brought in the first run, followed by McKayla Ferguson's solo home run in the bottom of the second.

Northwest Florida State extended their lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the third inning, with Britt Bourgoyne's strategic tag-up play.

Pitcher Tori Taylor delivered an outstanding performance for the Raiders, allowing zero runs on three hits over seven innings, with four strikeouts and one walk. Jolee Camp started in the circle for the Eagles, conceding three runs on five hits over one inning.

Christina Mason led the Raiders' offense with two RBIs, going 1-for-2 at the plate. Arnold and Gyvan Hammons each contributed two hits for the Raiders, who also showcased disciplined batting with five walks and aggressive baserunning with three stolen bases.

Both teams executed one double play defensively, with Northwest Florida State maintaining a flawless fielding performance. Rosalie Dufresne, Tori Richardson, and Sophie Ryon each collected one hit for the Tallahassee Community College Eagles, who also delivered a solid defensive performance without committing any errors.
