Heyl Earns NJCAA Region VIII Pitcher of the Week Award

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Coming off another stellar week of pitching in the circle, Northwest Florida State softball's Cailyn Heyl has been recognized by the FCSAA as this week's NJCAA Region 8 Softball Pitcher of the Week.

Last week, Heyl made four appearances in the circle for the Raiders, tossing a combined 22.2 innings of work, striking out a whopping 21 batters while only surrendering five earned runs. This performance only adds to what has been an impressive start to the season for the freshman from Louisiana. In 15 appearances this season, Heyl has earned 13 wins in each of her 13 starts, struck out 55 batters, and only given up ten runs in 70.1 innings of work, boasting a 1.00 ERA.

Compared to the rest of the country, Heyl stands at the top as one of the elite arms in the NJCAA. The Central, La. native ranks first in the country in wins (13), second in innings pitched (70.1), third in shutouts (3), tenth in strikeouts (55) and 14th in ERA (1.00)

You can catch Heyl and the rest of the 2024 Raiders in action this week as the teams get's set for two upcoming series. Tomorrow the Raiders will travel to Enterprise State to take on the Boll Weevils in a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. From there, the Raiders will return home for a Friday doubleheader against Snead State, beginning at 11:00 a.m. from the NWF Softball Complex.
