Raiders Improve to 20-0 with Doubleheader Sweep Over LBW Tuesday

 

GAME ONE
Northwest Florida State secured a 7-0 victory over Lurleen B. Wallace on Tuesday, highlighted by a four-run surge in the sixth inning. Gyvan Hammons ignited the rally with a crucial single, driving in two runs, while an error further bolstered the Raiders' lead with two additional runs.

 

The Raiders initially opened the scoring in the second inning when Hayden Andrews grounded out, bringing in one run. An error in the third inning extended the Raider lead to 2-0.

 

Cailyn Heyl delivered a stellar pitching performance for NWF, conceding just one hit and zero runs over seven innings while striking out nine batters and issuing only one walk. On the opposing side, Abbey Glidewell started the game for the Saints, allowing four hits and seven runs (two earned) over seven innings, with five strikeouts and four walks.

 

Hammons led the charge for the Raiders with two hits in three at-bats, setting the tone at the top of the lineup. Autumn Vessier contributed with two walks, while the team showcased patience at the plate, accumulating five walks in total. The Raiders also displayed their speed on the bases, stealing three bases during the game.

 

GAME TWO

Christina Mason led Northwest Florida State to a commanding 16-3 victory over Lurleen B. Wallace on Tuesday, driving in five runs on two hits. Mason's offensive prowess included a double in the fourth inning, bringing in three runs, and a home run to left field in the second inning, scoring two.

 

The Raiders surged ahead in the top of the second inning, with a series of hits and runs. Britt Bourgoyne, Gyvan Hammons, Sister Arnold, Ashlyn Shirah, and Mason combined to contribute to the early lead, highlighted by Mason's two-run homer. The Saints Saints managed to score one run in the bottom of the second inning on Emily Taylor's solo home run to center field.

 

Northwest Florida State extended their lead further with four runs in the top of the third inning, courtesy of RBI singles by Bourgoyne, Shirah, and Gabby Miller. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Emma Poore's homer to left field drove in two runs for Lurleen B. Wallace.

 

Breana Barnes earned the win for NWF, allowing just two hits and one run over two innings, with one strikeout and no walks. Alaynah Smith started the game for the Saints, giving up five hits and six runs (five earned) over one and one-third innings, with one strikeout and one walk.

 

The Raiders' offense was led by Hammons, who went 3-for-3 at the plate. Hayden Andrews, Shirah, and Bourgoyne also contributed multiple hits, with Andrews stealing two bases.

 

The Raiders displayed discipline at the plate, drawing six walks, and showcased their speed on the base paths with three stolen bases. Additionally, the team turned one double play during the game.
