
Mason Powers NWF Past Lamar State-Port Arthur Thursday
GULF SHORES, Ala. – Christina Mason's stellar performance propelled Northwest Florida State to a commanding 14-1 victory over the Lamar State-Port Arthur on Thursday, with Mason hitting two home runs and driving in five runs. Her offensive prowess was evident as she homered in both the first and second innings.
The Raiders wasted no time taking the lead, with Sister Arnold's single bringing in one run in the top of the first. Mason's homer to left field then cleared the bases, adding three more runs, while Gyvan Hammons drew a walk to bring in another run. The team continued to dominate in the second inning, with Ashlyn Shirah's homer to center field and Mason's second homer to left field, along with Madison Stewart's single, each contributing a run.
In the third inning, the Raiders further extended their lead with RBI singles from Mason, Ella Davis, and Kamryn Carver, adding four more runs. Autumn Vessier and McKayla Ferguson each added solo home runs in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, to solidify the Raiders' dominance.
Breana Barnes secured the win for NWF, pitching three innings without allowing a hit and conceding only one run, while striking out one and walking one. Mia Guerrero started for the Lamar State Seahawks, giving up six hits and six runs over one inning. Sydney Simpson provided two innings of shutout relief for the Raiders, striking out six and walking two.
NWF offense was relentless, tallying 15 hits in the game. Ferguson and Mason led the charge with three hits each, hitting back-to-back in the lineup. Shirah and Carver also contributed multiple hits, while Shirah and Ferguson showcased their speed on the bases with multiple steals. The team's disciplined approach at the plate resulted in four walks, and they capitalized on their speed, stealing five bases in total.
