NWF Defeats Iowa Western On Back of Clutch Display From Christina Mason

GULF SHORES, Ala. – Northwest Florida State softball secured another win in Gulf Shores on Thursday after defeating Iowa Western, 11-2 in five innings, moving them to 15-0 on the season.

Christina Mason was the star of the game, driving in five runs with two hits to propel The Raiders to an 11-2 victory over the Reivers on Thursday. Her grand slam to center field in the second inning accounted for four of those runs, following her earlier double in the first inning that brought in one.

The scoring started early for NWF, with Ashlyn Shirah's double bringing in a run in the first inning. The momentum continued in the second inning as the Raiders scored five runs on three hits. Gyvan Hammons contributed with a single RBI, and Mason added her grand slam.

Iowa Western got on the board with a solo home run by Martin in the third inning, but the Raiders responded with more runs in the bottom of the third, courtesy of Hayden Andrews, Hammons, and Sister Arnold.

Cailyn Heyl secured the win for the Raiders, pitching four innings, allowing four hits and two runs, while striking out two. McCall started for Iowa Western, giving up five hits and seven runs over two innings. Tori Taylor relieved Heyl for NWF.

The Raiders showed discipline at the plate, drawing four walks, and demonstrated their speed on the bases with four stolen bases. They also played a clean game defensively, committing no errors.
