FIRST PITCH
Northwest Florida State softball faces another packed week ahead with six games on the schedule. The Raiders kick off with a doubleheader at home on Tuesday against Wallace-Dothan, followed by four games in Gulf Shores, Ala. on Friday and Saturday.
Having started the season with an impressive 12-0 record, mirroring last year's strong start, the Raiders aim to maintain their winning momentum with another pair of wins tomorrow.
Tuesday's doubleheader against the Governors starts at 2:00 PM, followed by game two around 4:00 PM. On Friday, the Raiders head back to Alabama to face Northwest-Shoals at 1:30 PM and Jones College at 3:30 PM. Saturday's schedule in Gulf Shores includes matchups against Southern Union at 9:00 AM and Holmes College at 11:30 AM.
LAST WEEK
The Raiders secured four victories in Dothan, Ala., over the weekend, triumphing over Wallace State (8-4), Central Alabama (9-8), Miami Dade (10-0 / 5 innings), and Shelton State (8-6).
Sophia Jones stood out with an exceptional performance, tallying eight hits and nine RBIs, including the game-winning home run in the second game against Central Alabama.
McKayla Ferguson also shone during the weekend in Alabama, contributing five hits, three doubles, and two triples, along with eight RBIs.
In the pitching department, Cailyn Hail maintained her strong form, pitching 14.2 innings, striking out ten batters, allowing only two earned runs, and securing three wins.
STATISTICALY SPEAKING
The Raiders are dominating in NJCAA statistical categories, currently ranking in the top-ten in 13 key areas. They excel in runs (3rd), hits (3rd), doubles (10th), triples (1st), home runs (8th), RBIs (3rd), extra base hits (4th), total bases (2nd), walks (3rd), hit by pitch (4th), sac-flies (5th), stolen bases (2nd), and shutouts (7th).
Furthermore, several NWF players are among the leaders in hitting categories. Sister Arnold (T-5th), Ashlyn Shirah (T-12th), and Gyvan Hammons (T-19th) are in the top-ten for hits. Arnold (T-11th) and Shirah (T-17th) also rank in the top-20 for RBIs, along with McKayla Ferguson (T-11th). Adding to their prowess, Arnold is tied for third in home runs with six this season.
