Second-Inning Spurt Leads NWF Past Miami Dade in Dothan

DOTHAN, Ala. – Northwest Florida State secured a commanding 10-0 victory against Miami Dade College on Saturday, fueled by a remarkable six-run surge in the second inning.

 

The offensive onslaught began with Britt Bourgoyne's clutch single, driving in one run, followed by Lais Ihy's fielder's choice inducing Sister Arnold to bring in another run. Christina Mason then delivered a crucial triple, tallying two runs, while McKayla Ferguson and Sophia Jones each contributed with triples and a sacrifice fly, respectively, adding to the scoring spree.

 

The Raiders wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the first inning, as Ferguson and Jones each played a role in bringing in a run.

 

Cailyn Heyl showcased her pitching prowess, earning the win for NWF by pitching four innings of shutout ball, allowing only three hits while striking out one and walking three. Meanwhile, Lais Ihy started the game for Miami Dade but struggled, conceding eight runs over three innings, despite managing to strike out two and walk six. Tori Taylor entered the game in relief for the Raiders, tossing one inning without giving up a run.

 

Mason led the offensive charge for Northwest Florida State, going 2-for-2 at the plate. Jones, Ferguson, Mason, and Bourgoyne all contributed two RBIs each to the team's impressive performance. The Raiders also demonstrated disciplined batting, drawing seven walks throughout the game.Defensively, Northwest Florida State exhibited flawless fielding, committing zero errors, with Arnold leading the team in defensive plays.
