NWF Seals Nail-Biting Win with Walk-Off Against Central Alabama

DOTHAN, Ala. – Friday's game was a nail-biter, with Northwest Florida State securing a thrilling 9-8 victory over the Central Alabama in walk-off fashion.

 

Trailing 8-7 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Sophia Jones came through with a clutch homer to center field, driving in two runs and sealing the win. Jones had a standout performance, driving in four runs and going 3-for-4 at the plate.

 

The Trojans struck first in the top of the first inning, with Brooke Milner, Kelbi Johnson, and Cahley Acreman each scoring a run. However, the Raiders responded with a strong offensive display, tying the game at three in the bottom of the third.

 

The Trojans regained the lead, making it 7-3 in the top of the fourth inning with key hits from Campbell Hecklinski, Morgan Brewer, and Milner. In a dramatic turnaround, the Raiders surged ahead in the bottom of the seventh, fueled by McKayla Ferguson's triple and Jones's pivotal game winning home run.

 

Cailyn Heyl earned the win for the Raiders, pitching three and two-thirds innings and allowing just one run. Tori Taylor and Alexis Walls started in the circle for their respective teams.

 

Ferguson led Northwest Florida State's offense with two hits, while Christina Mason drew two walks. The team showed patience at the plate, accumulating six walks overall. Autumn Vessier showcased speed on the basepaths, stealing two bases, and the Raiders were flawless defensively, committing no errors.

 

Northwest Florida now moves to 10-0 on the season and have scored at least eight runs in each of their ten wins.
