NWF Clinches Two Wins Against Coastal Alabama-South in Tuesday Doubleheader

MINETTE, Ala. – On Tuesday afternoon, Northwest Florida State secured two more victories against Coastal Alabama-South, winning 9-2 in game one and 17-2 in game two.

 

Sister Arnold continued her dominance at the plate, registering six hits on the day, including an impressive four in the second game of the doubleheader. Christina Mason contributed significantly by driving in four runs with two home runs against the Coyotes. Ashlyn Shirah also played a crucial role, tallying four RBIs with a 2-5 performance in the second game.

 

On the pitching front, Caylin Hail delivered another stellar showing, pitching 4.0 innings without conceding a run and striking out four. Tori Taylor also had a commendable outing, tossing 3.2 innings, striking out four Coyotes, and allowing only two runs.

 

GAME ONE

The Raiders took an early lead in the first inning when Christina Mason was hit by a pitch, bringing in a run, followed by McKayla Ferguson's triple that scored two runs. Mason extended the lead in the third inning with a homer to left field, adding two more runs for Northwest Florida State.

 

Cailyn Heyl secured the win for Northwest Florida, pitching four innings, allowing zero runs on six hits while striking out four. Shellie Littlefield started for Coastal Alabama South, conceding seven earned runs over four innings.

 

Sister Arnold and Britt Bourgoyne each had two hits for the Raiders, while Ferguson and Mason contributed two RBIs each. Ashlyn Shirah led in walks with two, and the team drew a total of five walks. Shirah also stole three bases, as the Raiders ran wild on the base paths, accumulating five stolen bases and turning two double plays.

 

For Coastal Alabama, Taylor Hunt, Kailin Parker, and Kaylin Fincher each collected two hits, with Parker leading in RBIs with two.

 

GAME TWO

The Raiders continued their dominance with a 17-7 victory over Coastal Alabama South Softball in the second game on Tuesday. The Raiders started strong with Ashlyn Shirah grounding out and Gabby Miller singling to bring in runs in the first inning. They extended their lead in the second inning with Gyvan Hammons and Sister Arnold both singling, followed by Shirah's fielder's choice, each scoring a run. McKayla Ferguson added to the lead with a solo home run in the third inning.

 

Northwest Florida exploded in the fourth inning, scoring six runs, with Christina Mason hitting a three-run homer and Maleah Hale doubling to bring in two runs. In the fifth inning, they added five more runs, including two from Shirah's single.

 

Breana Barnes earned the win for the Raiders, pitching three and one-third innings, allowing four hits and four earned runs.

 

The Raiders had a remarkable 19 hits, with Sister Arnold going 4-for-4 and Shirah leading in RBIs with four. Ferguson, Hammons, Sophia Jones, Miller, and Mason also had multiple hits. Arnold and Hammons each stole multiple bases, contributing to the team's nine stolen bases.

 

For the Coyotes, Kaylin Fincher led with three RBIs, while Fincher and Jersee Carter collected two hits each.Both teams showed discipline at the plate, tallying a total of six walks, with Coastal Alabama committing no errors defensively.

The Raiders return to Alabama this weekend for a packed schedule in Dothan, featuring four games spread across Friday and Saturday. They kick off with two games against Wallace State and Central Alabama on Friday, followed by matchups against Miami Dade and Shelton State on Saturday.
