Arnold's Power On Display As NWF Defeats USAF Academy

CLEARWATER, Florida - In a dominant performance, Northwest Florida State softball secured a convincing 12-4 victory over USAF Academy on Friday in Clearwater, with Sister Arnold leading the charge with two home runs and three RBIs. Arnold showcased her power at the plate, homering in both the third and fifth innings.

 

The Raiders wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, as Ashlyn Shirah's single in the first inning drove in two runs, while McKayla Ferguson's groundout added another run. The offensive onslaught continued in the third inning, with NWF tacking on four more runs. Arnold's solo home run to center field, a two-run homer by Autumn Vessier, and a run-scoring groundout by Gabby Miller fueled the Raiders' offensive surge.

 

The fifth inning saw another burst of energy from the Raiders, as Arnold once again cleared the fences with a two-run home run to left field.Breana Barnes earned the win on the mound for Northwest Florida State, pitching four innings and allowing three hits and two runs while striking out one and walking three. Sydney Simpson provided relief in a solid performance for the Raiders.

 

Arnold and Shirah were instrumental in the lineup, each collecting three hits and going 3-for-3 on the day. Shirah, who drove the middle of the lineup, led the Raiders with four RBIs. Gyvan Hammons contributed two hits in four at-bats, adding to the team's offensive production. Christina Mason showcased plate discipline with two walks, reflecting the team's overall patience with a total of six walks in the game.

 

The Raiders exhibited their speed on the basepaths, with Shirah and Hammons each stealing multiple bases. In total, Northwest Florida State stole nine bases during the game. The defense was solid, turning one double play, and the team displayed sure-handed fielding, committing no errors. Vessier, with six chances, had the most opportunities in the field. Northwest Florida State delivered a comprehensive performance, combining offensive firepower, disciplined at-bats, and stellar defense to secure a decisive win over USAF Academy.

The Raiders will be back in action tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM when they take on Georgia Military College before facing College of Central Florida later in the morning at 10:30 AM.
