Raiders Split Doubleheader with Pensacola

NICEVILLE, Fla. – Northwest Florida softball split a doubleheader with Pensacola on Wednesday at the Raider Softball Complex.

Northwest Florida 9, Pensacola 8

A five-run offensive eruption in the sixth inning helped lift Northwest Florida to a 9-8 win over Pensacola in the first game of the doubleheader.

In the first, Abby Sulte hit her 19th home run of the year and finished the game 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and three runs scored. Sulte's 19 home runs puts her in a tie for the lead nationally. She also ranks seventh with 60 RBI.

With the game tied at four in the sixth, Abbott Stafford doubled home Ivey Hill and Lele Martinez to regain the lead for the Raiders, 6-4. Brittni Rufus' ground ball added a run two batters later before Cameron Hall doubled to plate two more for NWF.

Katie Walters went 5.2 innings in the circle with three strikeouts.

Pensacola 11, Northwest Florida 6

The Pirates scored eight runs across the first three innings to force NWF into playing catch-up for the remainder of the game.

Hall, Stafford, and Gabrielle Fischetti all drove in runs for the Raiders, while Sulte collected a double.

Amber Divine finished the game 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Northwest Florida (32-16, 7-9 PC) returns to action on Saturday with a doubleheader at Gulf Coast.
