NWF Softball Splits Twin Bill with Chipola

NICEVILLE, Fla. – Northwest Florida State softball split a doubleheader with Chipola on Thursday dropping the first game, 5-3, before rebounding to win the second, 6-4. 

Chipola 5, Northwest Florida 3

Abby Sulte drove in all three of the Raiders runs as NWF was held to just three hits in the contest.

Sulte was 2-for-3 in the game with a two-run home run in the first inning and a solo shot in the fourth to up her season total to 15. Bailey Cox collected a triple for the only other NWF hit.

Lauren Parson tossed 3.2 scoreless innings in relief for the Raiders with two strikeouts.

Northwest Florida 6, Chipola 4

NWF (27-9, 4-2 PC) held off a late Chipola rally to take the second game of the doubleheader, 6-4.

Katie Walters solid in the circle en route to her 13th victory of the season, tied for second-most in the NJCAA. The freshman gave up two earned runs and fanned four in 6.2 innings of work.

Lele Martinez hit a three-run home run on the Raiders' four-run third inning. Northwest Florida picked up two more runs in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Gracie Pittman and a ground ball from Sckylier Baronet.

Parson recorded the final out of the game to earn the save.

Northwest Florida returns to action on Saturday as the team travels to face Pensacola. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
