NWF Downs Chipola, Falls to Pensacola to Open Conference Play

DOTHAN, Ala. – Northwest Florida State softball defeated Chipola before falling to Pensacola to kick off Panhandle Conference play on Friday in Dothan, Ala.

Northwest Florida 7, Chipola 5

The Raiders used a six-run fourth inning to down Chipola, 7-5, to open Panhandle Conference play.

Trailing 3-1, Gabrielle Fischetti drew a leadoff walk in the fourth and one batter later, Sckylier Baronet launched a 1-2 pitch over the fence in left to tie the game at 3-all.

Following singles from Abbott Stafford and Amber Divine, Bailey Cox homered to right to give NWF at 6-3 advantage. Abby Sulte later singled home a run giving the Raiders a four-run cushion.

Ivey Hill gave NWF an early 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the first inning.

Hill got the start in the circle and tossed 3.1 innings before giving way to Lauren Parson, who earned the win with 2.2 innings of relief.

Pensacola 9, Northwest Florida 7
Eight errors proved costly for Northwest Florida in a 9-7 loss to No. 14 Pensacola.

Northwest Florida (24-8, 1-1 PC) gave up seven runs over the first three innings but battled back late to make it a game.

The Raiders notched five extra base hits, including a solo homer from Lele Martinez.

Martinez, Hill, and Divine all finished with two hits. Brittni Rufus collected a pair of RBIs with a double in the third.

The loss snapped a 14-game winning streak for the Raiders.

Northwest Florida is back in action on Saturday as the team takes on Tallahassee at 9 a.m. and Gulf Coast at 12:30 p.m.
