Home Runs Galore in Softball Sweep

MARIANNA, Fla. – After having all four games of the Visit Dothan Invitational cancelled due to rain, the Northwest Florida State softball team was able to squeeze in two games against Georgia Military on Sunday. 

The Raiders (8-4) scored 31 runs on 31 hits and belted 12 home runs in the two victories. Abby Sulte led NWF offensively going 5-for-9 with four home runs, six RBIs, and five runs scored on the day.

Northwest Florida now leads the nation in home runs with 26 and is second with 119 runs scored. 

Northwest Florida 16, Georgia Military 8

Gabrielle Fischetti, Cameron Hall, Brittni Rufus and Sulte all went deep in the win. Rufus' homer was a grand slam to give the Raiders a 5-1 advantage in an eight-run second inning.

Hall finished the game 3-for-3 with a trio if RBIs. Sulte, Rufus, and Fischetti all ended with multiple hits.

Katie Walters got the start in the circle for NWF and tossed 4.1 innings allowing five runs on six hits with three strikeouts. 

Northwest Florida 15, Georgia Military 4

The longball was again the main theme as Northwest Florida swept the doubleheader with a 15-4 win.

Abby Sulte went deep three times, Ivey Hill hit two, and Emma Alley, Lele Martinez, and Rufus added home runs of their own. 

Sulte hit a solo home run in the first, another solo shot in the third, and two-run blast in the seventh to become the first Raider to hit three home runs in a game since Kaisey Carson on Feb. 19, 2014. Sulte now leads the team with six home runs on the season.

Hill launched a solo homer in the fifth and a three-run jack in the sixth.

Northwest Florida travels to take on Hinds Community College at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
