Raiders Split Doubleheader at Mississippi Gulf Coast

PERKINSTON, Miss. – Northwest Florida State softball hit six home runs on the day as the Raiders split a doubleheader at Mississippi Gulf Coast on Tuesday.

Mississippi Gulf Coast 10, Northwest Florida 9

Northwest Florida (6-4) took a 7-1 lead into the sixth inning, but the Bulldogs exploded for seven runs to take an 8-7 lead.

Cameron Hall gave the Raiders the lead right back in the seventh with a two-run home run, but it was short lived as Mississippi Gulf Coast scored the tying on a double and the winning run on a NWF defensive error.

Emma Alley, Gabrielle Fischetti, and Ivey Hill also went deep for NWF. Alley and Fischetti collected three RBIs each in the game.

Northwest Florida 12, Mississippi Gulf Coast 4

After Mississippi Gulf Coast took a 3-1 lead in the fourth, it was all Northwest Florida from that point. The Raiders scored 10 runs in the final three innings to down the Bulldogs, 12-4, in the nightcap.

Hall and Brittni Rufus went deep in the game, while Abbott Stafford and Abby Sulte each collected extra base hits. The Raiders have now hit 14 home runs and 34 extra base hits in the first 10 games on the season.

Stafford finished the game 3-for-4, while Bailey Cox and Hall finished with two hits each.

Katie Walters went the distance in the circle tossing six innings allowing four runs on seven hits and four strike outs.

Northwest Florida returns to action on Saturday when the team travels to Dothan, Ala., for the Visit Dothan Invitational.
