Raiders Softball Sweeps Doubleheader

BAY MINETTE, Ala. – The Northwest Florida State softball team collected 24 hits and came away with a pair of wins on Friday with an 11-4 win over Coastal Alabama – South and a 5-4 victory over Southern Union.

Northwest Florida 11, Coastal Alabama – South 4

The Raiders banged out 14 hits, including eight extra base hits in an 11-4 rout of Coastal Alabama – South.

Brittni Rufus, Lele Martinez, and About Stafford collected two hits each, while Cameron Hall was 4-for-5 in the game.

Gabrielle Fischetti got the scored started with a two-RBI double four batter into the game. The Raiders added six more in the second highlighted by a two-run home run by Martinez and RBI doubles from Rufus and Stafford.

Katie Walters got the start in the circle and tossed three innings surrendering three runs on two hits and five walks. Mikayla Hampton entered in relief to pitch the final four innings allowing one unearned run.

Northwest Florida 5, Southern Union 4

Lele Martinez and Ivey Hill went deep as the Raiders hung on to down Southern Union 5-4 in the nightcap of a Friday doubleheader.

Hill not only produced at the plate, but in the circle as well. The southpaw tossed 6.2 innings allowing four runs on seven hits. After a two out walk, Abbott Stafford entered and recorded the final out to preserve the victory.

Martinez smashed a two-run homer in the first, but Southern Union answered with a two-run blast of their own in the bottom half. Hill smacked a two-run shot in the fourth to give the Raiders a 4-2 lead. Martinez added to that with an RBI single two batters later.

Southern Union added a pair of runs in the fourth, but Hill and Stafford were able tame the offense the rest of the way.

Additionally, Brittni Rufus and Cameron Hall collected two hits each for NWF.

Northwest Florida returns to the diamond on Feb. 2 in a doubleheader at Mississippi Gulf Coast.
