Raiders Fall in Pair of One-Run Affairs

BAY MINETTE, Ala. – Northwest Florida softball dropped both legs of a Friday doubleheader in Bay Minette, falling 2-1 to Coastal Alabama – South and 5-4 to Southern Union.

Coastal Alabama – South 2, Northwest Florida 1

Coastal Alabama scored runs in the third and fourth inning to take a 2-0 lead. In the fifth, it appeared that the Raiders were primed to take control of the game. Makiya Giles and Ashley Autuori drew walks to start the frame before Lele Martinez singled to shallow left to load the bases.

However, Coastal Alabama reliever Kennedy Carruth got an infield pop fly and a strike out for the first two outs. Giles scored on a wild pitch, but another strikeout ended the innings and the threat.

Autuori finished the game 2-for-2. Brookelyn Sweeney tossed all six innings allowing two runs – one earned – on just three hits.

Southern Union 5, Northwest Florida 4

After falling behind 4-0, the Raider again tried to mount a comeback. In the third, Ivey Hill doubled home Jade Mention and Sckylier Baronet to cut the deficit in half.

NWF pulled to within one when Martinez tripled to score Amber Divine from first, but Southern Union homered in the bottom half to regain the two-run advantage.

Caitlynne Lamug scored in the seventh, but with the tying run on base, the Raiders got into a rundown following a Baronet that resulted in the final out of the game.

Northwest Florida returns to action Tuesday as the team travels to take on Enterprise State in a doubleheader set for a 1 p.m. start.
