Sweeney Tosses No-Hitter, NWF Sweeps Pearl River

NICEVILLE, Fla. – Northwest Florida sophomore Brookelyn Sweeney struck out 10 batters en route to a no-hitter in game one of a doubleheader sweep of Pearl River Tuesday at the Raider Softball Complex.

Northwest Florida 9, Pearl River 0

Sweeney was lights out in a 9-0 win over Pearl River in game one of the doubleheader. The Belle Chasse, La., native struck out the first six batters of the game and eight of the first 11 to earn her third win of the season in the circle.

Lele Martinez, who was named Region VIII Player of the Week prior to the game, hit a 3-run home run in the first and finished the game with a pair of hits and two runs scored. Abby Sulte went deep in the third inning for 3-run shot, her fourth long ball of the 2020 campaign.

Northwest Florida 5, Pearl River 2

Ivey Hill collected a 2-RBI double and Abbey Higginbotham hit her first home run of the season to lead Northwest Florida to a 5-2 win in game two.

Lauren Rase got the start and tossed three scoreless innings. Brooklyn Sweeney entered in relief and earned the save. Sweeney struck out seven in the effort and fanned 17 hitters in the two games. 

The Raiders return to action Friday when the team travels to take on Coastal Alabama – South at 1 p.m. and Southern Union at 3 p.m. Both games will take place in Bay Minette, Ala.
