NWF Softball Takes Two Wins to Close Out Sun Chief Classic

GULF SHORES, Ala. – Northwest Florida softball scored 22 runs in its two games as the Raiders defeated Walters State, 5-4, and Wallace-Dothan, 17-6, to close out action in the Sun Chief Classic.

Northwest Florida 5, Walters State 4

Gabrielle Fischetti and Makiya Giles combined to go 4-for-5 with five runs batted in from the plate to lead the Raiders to a 5-4 win over Walters State.

With the Raiders (11-5) leading 4-3 in the top of the seventh, Giles added what would prove to be the difference maker with a solo home run to lead off the frame.

Brookelyn Sweeney pitched the full seven innings and fanned five hits in the win.

Northwest Florida 17, Wallace-Dothan 6

Northwest Florida collected 17 hits in a 17-6 rout of Wallace-Dothan.

Giles continued to swing a hot stick going 3-for-4 from the plate with four RBIs. She finished the day 5-for-8 with six runs batted in. Abby Sulte went 3-for-5 with 5 RBIs, including a 3-run home run on the sixth.

Lele Martinez picked up her fourth homer of the year with a 3-run blast. Ariana Cipriano was 3-for-4 and scored thrice.

Lauren Rase struck out four batters over three innings to earn the victory.
