NWF Concludes Regular Season With Double-Digit Victory Over Gulf Coast

 

 

Panama City, Fla. – Northwest Florida State men's basketball concluded their regular season with a victory against Gulf Coast today, triumphing over the Commodores with a score of 87-69.

 

In the first half, despite shooting an impressive 60.0% from the field as a team, the Raiders only held a narrow three-point lead over the Commodores. Gulf Coast stayed competitive, relying on 13 made free throws and a 52.2% shooting percentage to keep the game close. The bulk of the Raiders' scoring came from three players, with Tajuan Simpkins and Jadyn Shider both reaching double digits with ten points each, while Jamal Sumlin contributed nine points.

 

The second half saw the Commodores briefly taking the lead. However, the Raiders emerged from the locker rooms with renewed vigor, shooting over 80.0% from the field, including three successful three-pointers. This surge propelled the Raiders to a 20-6 run just before the ten-minute mark, establishing their first double-digit lead of the game, which they maintained until the end.

 

Finishing the game with a remarkable 69.2% shooting accuracy, the Raiders delivered their best shooting performance of the season. Tajuan Simpkins led the scoring once again with 21 points, accompanied by four rebounds and four assists. Jadyn Shider followed closely with 18 points and six rebounds, while Jamal Sumlin contributed 16 points and Rasheed Jones added ten points to secure the win.

This game marks the end of the regular season schedule for the Raiders as they now shift their focus to the FCSAA State/ Region 8 Tournament in less than two weeks. The tournament will take place March 13-16 at Raider Arena in Niceville, Fla.
