Shider and Banks Double-Double Performances Lead Raiders to 81-67 Victory Over East Central on Friday

NICEVILLE, Florida – It was another statement win for Northwest Florida on Friday night as the Raiders took home their second win on the season riding double-double performances from sophomores Jadyn Shider and Tavion Banks.

Shider was a menace all night, racking up 22 total points, missing just two shots, while securing a staggering 19 total rebounds – a career high for the forward out of Albany, GA. Banks secured his sixth career double-double after posting 16 points and 10 rebounds in the Raiders win. Jamal Sumlin also made an impression with his 12 points, while coming away with three assists and a pair of steals.

As a team, the Raiders shot 43.8% from the field, 26.7% from three and 46.4% from the free throw line. Northwest Florida out rebounded East Central 58-32 and capitalized on 19 second chance points compared to the Warriors 10. The Raiders carried a lead for over 35 minutes tonight and saw it largest lead (21) come with just over two-minutes remaining in the second half.

First Half

  • Both teams were trading blows through the first five minutes of action as the game saw five lead changes during this span.
  • The Raiders were finally able to grasp a lead around the 14-minute mark after a RaSheed Jones layup and Jadyn Shider jumper put Northwest Florida up seven over East Central.
  • After going over four minutes without a make from the floor, RaSheed Jones was able to get the Raiders going again with a made three-point jumper at the 9:26 mark in the first.
  • The Warriors were able to hang in the game thanks to their consistent presence from three, but second chance buckets allowed the Raiders to maintain a six-point lead headed into the break.

Second Half

  • A pair of free throws and layups allowed the Raiders to jump out to a nine point lead to start the second half, but another three from East Central helped narrow that lead back to six.
  • RaSheed Jones gave the Raiders their first double-digit lead of the game with a made layup in the lane at the 13:34 mark of the second half.
  • Northwest Florida was able to carry this double-digit lead the remainder of the game after holding the Warriors to just two made shots over the next seven plus minutes.
  • A steal and emphatic dunk by Tavion Banks straight out of a Warriors timeout gave Northwest Florida a commanding 19-point lead with under five minutes remaining.
  • East Central tried to take advantage of some late fouls hoping to string together a couple of scoring runs as time winded down, but had no answer for the Raiders defense as Northwest Florida walked away with a 14-point victory over East Central, securing their second win of the season.
