Raiders Defense Steps Up, Pulls Away for 81-62 Victory

NICEVILLE, Fla. – Northwest Florida closed out the contest on a 12-2 run to pull away in an 81-62 win over Gulf Coast State College. The Raiders improved their Panhandle Conference record to 2-2 on Saturday night in Raider Arena.

 

Just like the women's game tonight, the Raider defense stepped up tonight and held the Commodores to 31.1% from the field on 19-61 shooting. The defense forced 19 turnovers with Marcus Niblack and Kasean Pryor each accounting for 3 steals.

 

Marcus Niblack led the Raiders with 17 points on 6-10 shooting, while dishing out 4 assists. Tavion Banks accounted for 7 points, grabbing 5 offensive rebounds. Kasean Pryor and Takai Simpkins each had 14 points. The Raiders shot 31-67 (46.3%) from the field in the 19-point win.

 

The Raiders will hit the road on Wednesday, January 21st to take on the Tallahassee Eagles. The Eagles (21-1) are on a 20-game winning streak after defeating previously undefeated Chipola 62-54. This marks the second time Northwest Florida and Tallahassee will match up, with the Eagles coming away with a 76-68 victory on January 11th in Raider Arena.
