DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Northwest Florida traveled down south for the JUCO Shootout this past weekend, taking on Santa Fe College and Daytona State College on Saturday and Sunday. The Raiders went 1-1, losing to Daytona State in overtime on Sunday afternoon.
On Saturday, Northwest Florida played Santa Fe, coming away with an 81-63 win. Kasean Pryor was a difference maker as he scored 16 points and secured 15 rebounds. Collin Warren had 14 points off the bench on 6-8 shooting. The Raiders defense forced 17 turnovers and held Santa Fe to 38% shooting. Marcus Niblack and Taryn Todd recorded 3 steals a piece.
On Sunday, the Raiders lost a heart breaker to #17 Daytona State 96-94 in overtime. Kasean Pryor knocked down 2 free throws with 30 seconds remaining in regulation to put NWF up 84-78. Daytona State went down the court and hit a corner 3 with 20 seconds left and forced a turnover on the inbounds pass. The Falcons hit a fadeaway 3 with 11.6 seconds left on the clock to knot the score at 84.
In overtime, the lead exchanged multiple times until the Raiders committed a few costly turnovers down the stretch, allowing the Falcons to take a two-possession lead with 30 seconds left. Collin Warren connected on a 3 from the timeline with a foul to cut the deficit down to 96-94 with 0.3 seconds remaining. The missed free throw did not bounce the Raiders' way and Daytona State was able to come away with a victory to keep their perfect season alive.
Northwest Florida (12-4) will get a couple weeks off before heading over to Panama City to take on Central Georgia Technical College on Friday, December 30th, with tip-off scheduled at 12:00 PM at Gulf Coast State College. NWF faced off vs. Central GA Tech earlier in the season with the Raiders winning 87-66 on the road.
