Huge Second Half Surge Propels NWF to 79-63 victory over Coastal Alabama - South

Northwest Florida battled out their 5th straight win to open the season with a 79-63 victory over Coastal Alabama – South on Friday night in Raider Arena. The Raiders overcame an early 20-12 deficit, going on a 13-0 run to end the first half up 25-20.

It was a tale of two halves for the Raiders as they shot 9-30 (30%) in the first half. After the intermission, the Raiders caught fire shooting 21-33 (63.3%) and connecting on 8-11 (72.7%) from beyond the arc. Takai Simpkins was instrumental in the incredible shooting in the second half as he drained 7-9 threes en route to 27 points on the night.

Kasean Pryor recorded his second consecutive double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Pryor also recorded 3 steals and 5 blocks. Treyvon Byrd scored 12 points and Tavion Banks recorded 10.

Coastal Alabama went with a unique game plan against the Raiders, substituting all five players every few minutes. However, it proved to be costly as the Sun Chiefs could not find any rhythm, finishing the game shooting 38.4% from the field.

Northwest Florida takes the court tomorrow, November 12th at 4:00 PM vs. Southern Union. The Raiders defeated Southern Union 95-89 in the season opener on November 1st.
