Second Half Surge Leads Gulf Coast Past NWF

NICEVILLE, Fla. – Gulf Coast's Travon Mayo with 40 seconds remaining to give the lead and free throws iced the game down the stretch as the Commodores knocked off Northwest Florida State men's basketball, 67-64, on Tuesday in Raider Arena. 

The Raiders (5-10, 2-8 PC) led for 30:57 of the game but were outscored 39-25 in the second half as Gulf Coast stormed back to overcome a 15-point deficit over the final 17 minutes of action.

Alonzo Gaffney led NWF with 19 points and eight rebounds. Brison Waller was 6-of-9 from the field to finish with 12 points and six boards. Micah Thomas added nine points to go with seven assists.

Northwest Florida came out hot shooting 47 percent in the first half, including six of their eight three pointers.

Turnovers cost the Raiders as Gulf Coast scored 32 points off 21 NWF miscues.

Northwest Florida returns to action at home on Thursday against Tallahassee. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
