NWF Hoops Starts Season 2-0

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – It has been 11 months since Northwest Florida State men's basketball has taken the court. The Raiders opened 2021 on the right foot with a pair of wins over opening weekend.

Northwest Florida 75, Daytona State 73

The Raiders (2-0) trailed for most of the game, but Cam Jones drove the lane in transition and made the game-winning layup with 45 seconds left to life NWF to a 75-73 win over Daytona State.

Marseilles Caston led the team with 18 points and four steals. Alonzo Gaffney scored 14 points to go with seven rebounds. Fallou Diagne had 11 points and Jourdan Smith finished with 14.

Northwest Florida shot 41.1 percent (30-73) from the field and collected 16 steals as a team.

Northwest Florida 71, Miami Dade 56

Caston again paced the team in scoring with 18 points with 12 coming in the second half. Marchelus Avery had 11 points, while Micah Thomas and Brison Waller added 10 each.

The Raiders return to Raider Arena on Wednesday when the team hosts South Georgia Tech at 4 p.m.
