Northwest Florida Basketball Travels to Chipola Wednesday

NICEVILLE, Fla. – Northwest Florida men's and women's basketball both look to rebound from losses as the teams travel to Marianna to face Chipola Wednesday. 

The women are scheduled to kick things off at 5:30 p.m. and the men are set to follow at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be streamed at YouTube.com/ChipolaCollege

The men (12-5, 0-1 PC) are coming off an 85-82 double-overtime loss to Gulf Coast on Saturday, in which the team shot 48.4 percent from the field but was hamstrung by 29 turnovers. 

Marseilles Caston continued to play well with a team-high 23 points. The freshman has now scored 20 or more points in five of his last seven games. Jourdan Smith was solid as well. Before fouling out, Smith scored nine points with 11 rebounds.

Chipola enters with an identical 12-5, 0-1 record as the Raiders having lost to Tallahassee, 73-71, to open Panhandle Conference play on Saturday. Sophomore forward Cheikh Faye leads the Indians with 14.8 points and is sixth in NJCAA Region 8 with 44 three-pointers this season.

On the women's side, No. 6 Northwest Florida (15-2, 0-1 PC) has lost consecutive games, including a 78-66 defeat to No. 1 Gulf Coast. Chanaya Pinto scored 19 points in the loss, her fifth consecutive game in double figures and eighth with more than 15 points this year. 

Chipola (16-1, 1-0 PC) defeated Tallahassee, 57-45, to open conference play. The Indians lead the FCSAA with 9.1 three-pointer per game. The team has reeled off 11 straight wins since falling to Daytona State on Nov. 15.
