Farner Fuels Raiders in Game One, Chipola Responds to Split Doubleheader
GAME ONE: Farner's Five RBIs Power Raiders Past Chipola in 10-0 Shutout
Matthew Farner delivered a standout performance in Game One, driving in five runs on two extra-base hits to lead Northwest Florida State to a commanding 10-0 victory over Chipola on Saturday.
Farner broke the game open with a three-run home run to left field in the third inning and added a two-run double in the fourth, cementing a dominant offensive outing. The Raiders plated six runs in the third, sparked by a solo homer from Qrey Lott and aided by a Chipola error that allowed two more to score.
Henry Allen added to the fireworks with a two-run shot to right field in the fifth to extend the lead to double digits.
On the mound, Thomas Conrad was efficient and effective. The right-hander threw five shutout innings, allowing just three hits while walking three. Though he didn't record a strikeout, he kept the Chipola bats quiet all afternoon.
Offensively, the Raiders tallied 11 hits. Lott and Farner led the charge with two hits apiece, while the Chipola lineup was limited to three singles from Sam Parker, Luke Williams, and Miguel Hugas.
GAME TWO: Chipola's Bats Erupt to Avoid Sweep with 15-4 Win
The Raiders couldn't maintain their momentum in Game Two, as Chipola's offense came alive in a 15-4 win to split the doubleheader.
Chipola jumped ahead early with a solo homer from Miguel Hugas in the first. Though Northwest responded in the second with RBIs from Matthew Keller and another Raider to briefly take the lead, Chipola answered with a three-run bottom of the frame fueled by timely hitting and productive outs.
The Raiders tied it at four in the third on an RBI single from Sam Bradley, but Chipola pulled away for good in the bottom half. Williams drove in two with a single, and JC Vanek added a sac fly to make it 7-4.
The knockout blow came in the sixth inning when Chipola exploded for seven runs. The rally included a solo home run from Parker and a grand slam from Zaid Diaz, turning the game into a rout.
Alex Walsh took the loss for Northwest, giving up four runs on six hits over just 1.1 innings. Dallis Moran got the win for Chipola, allowing four runs across two innings while striking out three.
Bradley and Keller paced the Raiders offensively with two hits apiece, each driving in a run. Keller also swiped two bases.
Chipola pounded out 16 hits, with Williams and Hugas each collecting four. Williams and Diaz drove in four runs apiece to lead the offensive onslaught.
