
Raiders secure Victories in Games 2 and 3 against the Mississippi Gulf Coast
GAME ONE
The bottom of the lineup played a key role in the Northwest Florida State Raiders' 9-4 victory over the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs on Saturday in Perkinston. Sylas Boris, Preston Murphy, and Sam Bradley contributed four of the team's eight hits, scoring four runs and driving in two.
The Raiders took an early lead in the top of the second inning. Henry Allen launched a solo home run to center field, followed by Qrey Lott getting hit by a pitch to bring in a run. Matthew Farner then doubled, driving in two more, and an error allowed another run to score.
On the mound, Sam Schmidt got the start for the Raiders, allowing seven hits and four runs (one earned) over four and two-thirds innings. He struck out seven and walked one. Aiden Seymour started for the Bulldogs, giving up four hits and five runs (four earned) over two innings while striking out one and walking one. In relief, Cooper Powell kept the Bulldogs in check, pitching two and one-third shutout innings, allowing no hits, striking out two, and walking none.
Boris and Farner each tallied two hits for the Raiders, with Farner leading the team in RBIs with three, going 2-for-3 at the plate. He also drew two walks, contributing to the Raiders' seven total walks for the game.
For the Bulldogs, Keondre Fields went 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Keilon Parnell, Jacob Palazzo, and Fields each recorded two hits. Defensively, Mississippi Gulf Coast turned one double play in the game.
GAME TWO
David Alvarez powered the Northwest Florida State Raiders to a 14-5 victory over the Mississippi Gulf Coast Bulldogs on Saturday in Perkinston, driving in five runs on two hits. Alvarez delivered a grand slam to left field in the fifth inning, a sacrifice fly in the first, and a double in the sixth, contributing to the team's dominant offensive performance.
The Raiders struck first in the opening inning when Alvarez's sacrifice fly brought in a run. However, the Bulldogs responded quickly, taking the lead in the bottom of the first with RBI contributions from Keilon Parnell, Keondre Fields, Brandon Coakley, and Landon Holliman.
In the fourth inning, Augusto Mungarietta's single down the right field line helped the Raiders tie the game at four. They then took control in the fifth, erupting for six runs on six hits to seize a 10-4 lead, highlighted by Alvarez's grand slam.
The Bulldogs added one more run in the bottom of the fifth when Jacob Palazzo launched a solo home run to right field.
On the mound, Anthony St. Vincent provided a strong relief effort for the Raiders, tossing five and two-thirds innings while allowing just four hits and one run, striking out four and walking one. Eli Jones started the game but lasted only one-third of an inning, giving up four runs on one hit with three walks. For the Bulldogs, James Vines took the loss, allowing five hits and four runs (three earned) over three innings, striking out three and walking one.
Northwest Florida State racked up 18 hits in total. Leadoff hitter Qrey Lott led the charge, going a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate. Sylas Boris, Mungarietta, Sam Bradley, and Matthew Keller also had multi-hit performances. Defensively, the Raiders turned a double play.
For the Bulldogs, Dom Jackson led the offense with two hits in three at-bats. Parnell, Holliman, Palazzo, Coakley, and Fields each drove in a run, while the team managed three stolen bases.
UP NEXT
The Raiders return home this Tuesday for a single game against Wallace Dothan at 3:00 p.m. They will stay at home through the weekend, hosting a doubleheader against San Jacinto on Saturday, beginning at noon.
