Raiders Open Five-Game Home Stand Tomorrow Afternoon Against LBW

NICEVILLE, Fla. — Northwest Florida State baseball is set to host Lurleen B. Wallace on Tuesday afternoon for its 2025 home opener at the Raider Baseball Complex.

The Raiders have started the season 4-3 after spending two consecutive weeks on the road, competing in the SCF Legends Classic in Sarasota, Fla., and the Visit PCB JUCO Classic in Panama City.

In Sarasota, the Raiders posted a 2-1 record, defeating State College of Florida twice before falling to Miami Dade. This past weekend, they split four games in Panama City, securing wins over No. 24 John A. Logan and Wabash Valley but falling to Pearl River and No. 22 Indian River.

Now, Northwest Florida returns home for a five-game stretch this week, beginning with Lurleen B. Wallace on Tuesday. The Raiders will then host Miami Dade and Motlow State on Friday and Saturday in a round-robin format, facing each team twice over the two-day span.

LAST WEEK

The Raiders traveled to Panama City over the weekend to compete in the Visit PCB JUCO Classic, facing off against some of the top JUCO baseball programs. They finished the tournament with a 2-2 record, securing victories over No. 24 John A. Logan (11-3) and Wabash Valley (8-7), but falling to Indian River (6-4) and No. 22 Indian River (8-1).

Both the Raiders' offense and pitching staff had mixed performances. In their two wins, the team exploded for 19 runs, outscoring opponents by nine. However, in their two losses, the offense struggled, scoring just five runs while being outscored by nine.

Freshman third baseman Henry Allen had a standout weekend at the plate, going 8-for-14 with two doubles, a triple, and two home runs, driving in eight of the Raiders' 19 runs.

Qrey Lott and Ira Jefferies-Harris also made key contributions. Lott tallied six hits, including a double and a home run, with four RBIs. Jefferies-Harris added five hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs.

On the mound, 11 different pitchers saw action. Starters Thomas Conrad, Alex Walsh, Sam Schmidt, and Brady Robertson each logged at least three innings, while Bryon Rincons and Eli Jones also threw at least three frames. Powell and Walsh led the staff with six strikeouts each.

EARLY STANDOUTS

Through the first seven games, a couple of Raiders have emerged as early leaders at the plate.

  • David Alvarez leads the team with 10 hits and is one of five players to hit a home run this season.
  • Henry Allen follows closely with eight hits, including two home runs, and leads the team with eight RBIs.

On the pitching side:

  • Thomas Conrad holds the lowest ERA among pitchers who have faced at least 10 batters. In his two starts, he has tossed 7.0 innings, allowing just two earned runs while issuing only one walk and striking out three.
  • Alex Walsh has also been impressive, leading the team with 10 strikeouts in his first two appearances.

MARTIN AT THE HELM

Doug Martin enters his 17th season as the Head Baseball Coach at Northwest Florida State College, continuing a tenure marked by remarkable success. Under his leadership, the Raiders have achieved four Panhandle Conference Championships, nine FCSAA State/NJCAA Region VIII Tournament appearances, two FCSAA/Region VIII Championships, two NJCAA World Series appearances, and two National Championship game appearances, culminating in a national title in 2015.

Last season was a historic one for Martin and the Raiders. The team secured its second consecutive Conference Championship and second State/Region VIII Championship while making just its second-ever trip to the NJCAA World Series. They finished as the national runner-up, falling just short against Blinn College.

Adding to the milestone moments, Coach Martin celebrated his 500th career win on April 13, 2024, with a dominant 10-0 victory over Tallahassee State. His leadership was further recognized as he earned his fourth Panhandle Conference Coach of the Year award and his second FCSAA Coach of the Year honor.
