LAST WEEK

The Raiders impressed in their opening weekend, picking up two wins over State College of Florida— a 4-3 victory in Game 1 and a thrilling 9-8 win in Game 2—while falling 6-2 to Miami Dade on Sunday.

David Alvarez led the Raiders' offense, going 8-for-11 at the plate with a double, triple, and home run, tallying two RBIs. Qrey Lott led the team in RBIs with three, while Tristan Bittle reached safely in five of his 13 at-bats, collecting three hits and two RBIs.

On the mound, 12 different Raiders saw action. Ryker Chavis, Thomas Conrad, Bryon Rincones, and Alex Walsh each tossed three innings. Walsh and Conrad stood out, allowing no earned runs and combining for seven strikeouts. Brady Robertson led the team in strikeouts, fanning five batters in just 2.1 innings.

Northwest Florida looks to carry this momentum into the Visit PCB JUCO Classic as they continue their early-season road stretch.

MARTIN'S WORLD

Doug Martin enters his 17th season as the Head Baseball Coach at Northwest Florida State College, continuing a tenure marked by remarkable success. Under his leadership, the Raiders have achieved four Panhandle Conference Championships, nine FCSAA State/NJCAA Region VIII Tournament appearances, two FCSAA/Region VIII Championships, two NJCAA World Series appearances, and two National Championship game appearances, culminating in a national title in 2015.

Last season was a historic one for Martin and the Raiders. The team secured its second consecutive Conference Championship and second State/Region VIII Championship while making just its second-ever trip to the NJCAA World Series. They finished as the national runner-up, falling just short against Blinn College.

Adding to the milestone moments, Coach Martin celebrated his 500th career win on April 13, 2024, with a dominant 10-0 victory over Tallahassee State. His leadership was further recognized as he earned his fourth Panhandle Conference Coach of the Year award and his second FCSAA Coach of the Year honor.
