
Northwest Florida Edges State College of Florida in Tight Battle
SARASOTA, Fla. – Northwest Florida State baseball secured a hard-fought 4-3 victory over State College of Florida on Saturday to open their 2025 season.
State College of Florida (SCF) opened the scoring in the second inning, capitalizing on an error to bring a run across the plate.
The Raiders responded strongly in the fourth inning. Preston Murphy singled to drive in a run, followed by a two-run homer from Qrey Lott to left field, giving Northwest Florida a 3-1 lead.
The Raiders later added on in the top fo the sixth with a Bunt from Qrey Lott which forced an error by the Mantatee third baseman, allowing Augusto Mungarietta to score from second.
The Mantatees would get that run back in the bottom of the sixth with a double to left, cutting their deficit back to three.
SCF put the pressure back on the Raiders in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases with only one out in the inning. Ryker Chavis came in to shut the door on the Mantatee rally. SCF did get a run back with a single but was held in check as Chavis struck out the final batter to seal the victory.
Alex Walsh earned the win for the Raiders, delivering three innings of one-hit baseball, allowing no earned runs, and striking out four without issuing a walk. Bryon Rincones, Brady Robertson, and Ryker Chavis contributed in relief to seal the victory, with Chavis recording the two out save.
State College of Florida's Landon O'Donnell took the loss, pitching 3.1 innings and allowing three runs on four hits, with two strikeouts and two walks.
Qrey Lott led the Raiders' offense with a 2-for-4 performance, including two RBIs and a key home run. David Alvarez also contributed two hits.
For State College of Florida, Hayden Gustavson was a standout, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Allan Gil-Fernandez and Bernard Barnes each recorded an RBI.

The Raiders are set to return to the diamond tomorrow morning when they face Miami Dade in a neutral site game in Sarasota starting at 10:00 a.m. Immediately following their game with the Sharks, the Raiders will stay and face SCF once more to close out their weekend in Sarasota.
